Contemplating Life and Death (Awakening Press, 2004) was written in Japanese by Masahisa Tabata, M.D., and translated by Hiroshi Suzuki. Illustrated with paintings by John Dumas, the book was produced in QuarkXPress and printed by Hawaii Hochi. The back-cover blurb is by Mitsuo Aoki, professor emeritus of religion and author of Living Your Dying:

Written in an easily readable style, Contemplating Life and Death presents Buddhist insights and values that can direct people to live life in the light of what is authentic and real. These insights will make readers reflect on the meaning, direction, and goal of their lives. The Buddhist view that death reveals to us the nature of reality—why we suffer, how we can overcome suffering—can contribute significantly to the humanizing of death and dying in contemporary society.
